The BFCC class the age rating of 15 as the fact violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. Strong sadistic or sexualised violence is also unlikely to be acceptable. There may be detailed verbal references to sexual violence but any portrayal of sexual violence must be discreet and have a strong contextual justification.
What is the age rating for our film and why?
The age rating for our film is a 15. Our main reason for this is because it involves murder, blood and gore. Our film involves the elements of violence and may come disturbing to people under 15. Therefore then film should be rated as 15 and over. If we were to make the rest of the film then we would be aiming for a target audience that would mainly be the younger generation of people who enjoy films with a plot line like ours but also it applies to older people who enjoy horror and thriller films.
Why do we need to know our target Audience?
By knowing the age range of our target audience lets us know how far we can go with certain events in the film without having to worry about the younger generation. Overall it gives us ideas on how we can attract our viewers for example what to use on the poster advertisement, on the DVD cover etc. We would know what kind of elements to include to attract our target audience. By knowing our target audience we can simplify our decisions by knowing that we have to relate it to our target market.
Good evaluation of the certificate and the parameters it sets for your production; well done Danielle.
